Understanding Colour Consumables

Printer Services Newsletter 3.3

It has been a busy twelve months since our last newsletter and we have found it to be quite a challenging time for both sales and service.  Between what is happening in Australian politics and the increasing influence the Internet is having on the way business is run, we are experiencing some interesting changes.  Amidst these changes we believe more than ever that “customer service” is the key product of the future and will continue to be our greatest focus and asset.

Understanding Colour Consumables

As the range of colour laser printers expands, it is important to understand that there are more costs involved than the initial purchase price. The main reason for this is that there are four toner cartridges in the machine unlike the single cartridge in a mono printer.  Add to this regular Transfer Belt,  Fuser Unit and other replacements, you will find that colour printers have a higher running cost than the mono lasers.

The standard page count for a toner cartridge is worked out on the understanding that the pages printed will have only 5% of the page covered in toner.  So the recommended pages for a full set of cartridges are based on 20% coverage on the page. (ie. four colors toners at 5% each).  If you are printing a higher coverage on the page you will quickly find yourself getting less yielded pages than the manufacturers’ suggested figure. This will also cause the life span of Drum Units, Transfer Belts and Fusers to be decreased.

Affordable Color

Australian Printer Services Pty Ltd is now one of Fuji Xerox’s few selected Page Pack Partners.  Fuji Xerox printers sold under the Page Pack system come with an extended warranty of three, four or five year term at a fixed cost per page for your colour printing.  The fixed cost per page is set so no matter whether the print coverage is 1% or 100% the cost doesn’t change.  This can revert to savings of thousands of dollars to the end user as the fixed cost includes consumables and maintenance of the printer.

This not only allows us to compete with the photocopier market that charge a fixed cost per page, but has the added advantage of offering the same or similar solution with a lower cost of the asset.
